The lunacy never seems to cease. Government run grocery stores? As silly as that sounds, the potential is there because of the existence of “food deserts.” As defined by the Obama Administration, a food desert is a place that one has to travel more than one mile to find a grocery store. Now that I think about it, I live in a food desert! Not only do I, but 80% of those where I live technically live in food deserts given the fact that there are but only three grocery stores here located in the center of town while majority of residents now reside in outlying areas where no grocery stores exist. The government would have to open approximately 17 grocery stores in the comprising zip codes to eliminate food deserts in our quaint remote mountainside, south eastern Arizona city to abolish these “food deserts.” Twenty grocery stores in total for about 44,000 people.  (Read more).
